THE COURAGE TO LIVE YOUR CALLING

Courage is the first step required for any action or idea to take place. Because without it nothing else can happen. It takes courage to claim your voice, own your power, to sing the music inside you. It takes courage to realize that we need to claim our lives, to live our calling, to listen to our talents and gifts, to change our lifestyle and unleash the true creativity that sits inside our soul.

                                           

 TRUE NORTH

When my younger daughter was around eight, I caught her lying to me. It was all fairly harmless, a little white lie. She didn't intend to hurt me. We first talked about telling the truth. But what concerned me most was that she was afraid to tell the truth..... and what I wanted most for her in this life was to grow up brave and courageous, claiming her truth. So for her 'punishment' I had her write, one hundred times 'I will not be afraid, I will not be afraid', until all one hundred sentences were completed. Of course we all love our children and know they are amazing, but I believe that exercise was an intersection that set her compass for True North. Because today she owns her own courage and creativity. A 'knowing' that nothing can touch. Hallelujah!

COURAGE ACTION STEP

When coaching our clients we give them 'Action Steps' to help build their courage and confidence. Courage takes place outside the comfort zone, so it's always best to work in steps. Because we always practice what we preach, you too may want to give this a try. That way we all grow together.

Courage Action Steps for the Week:
one: give up one harmful thing you do to yourself daily.
two: forgive one person you have felt anger for and free yourself.
three: choose one positive habit you have been avoiding and begin doing it.
four: keep a reflection journal.
five: give thanks daily for the courage to make change.

OUR COURAGEOUS STUDENTS

Our next 'Certified Holistic Health Coach/Raw Food Chef Program' begins next week. We feel humbled and blessed to share our gifts with students looking to create careers with greater purpose and greater meaning while enriching the lives of others. Each student has a somewhat different plan for what they want to do with their training but they all arrive with the same truth. To make the journey whole on this precious Earth they need to help others. And anything less is living their lives too small.

We don't have to tell them any of this when they get here. They already 'know'. This quest is a movement to make a difference... a brave courage that finds a way to take vacation time and use it for learning. A courage that finds a way to have the kids looked after while they are away. A belief that their world will hold together until they get back. But they must go forward and learn more.

How do I know all this about them. Because they tell me. They all talk of a yearning to take their part getting the world back on track with education and diet change. It's the same yearning we have. It's a common bond.

TALKING TO FAMILY ABOUT DIET CHANGE

When eating Raw Foods and fresh pressed juices healed my tumor, I wanted to shout, share, tell the world, hire a marching band, maybe a few well placed banners, that said 'RAW FOODS HEAL'.

If you are on a journey of diet change with Vegan Raw Foods, you're going to feel better, look better, have more energy, be excited. Your going to want to tell friends and family about the foods your eating, about all the positive change your experiencing. It's only natural. We're social beings. We've learned from one another since the beginning of time.

 

 

GOING EASY ON FAMILY
Yet right now, with so many people in trouble from eating the Standard American Diet, there is a lot of guilt, shame and confusion floating around. This confusion has people defensive. No one wants to feel attacked by the people they are close to. And of course we don't want to make people we care about feel uncomfortable. Because part of the 'New Food Movement' is helping us connect with ourselves, experience less guilt when we eat, learn new methods of self care and self love.

GET CREATIVE
Sooooo, how do you share your exciting new life with friends, family and co-workers without going into 'fix-it' mode? With imagination, creativity, flexibility. The Raw Food Lifestyle has had twenty years to evolve out of oranges, bananas, and lentil loaf. The foods are fun, inventive, exciting and delicious. My suggestion is to learn to make a few 'WOW' foods that put a smile on the faces of your loved ones. Here are a few of of the winners that have worked for me, because I have no intentions of eating alone.

LEARN:
Learn to make a few Raw desserts that make friends weep. I got the Raw pie thing going. I'm welcome everywhere if I gotta pie.

As effective Holistic Health Coaches it's important to be mindful that the season is changing. Many of our clients have spent months hiding under puffy coats, high boots, scarfs and hats. There is a great degree of safety to all that head to toe clothing.

Spring and Summer mean flowers and birds return, but it also means we will be showing more skin. Confidence can slip when the layers of bulky clothes come off. For women, this can be a time of vulnerability and even panic. To serve our clients better, it is important to know what they think, what they worry about and when they worry so that we can be the agents for peace of mind. The interview-questionnaire is an unintrusive tool to begin the process of understanding where your client wants to go when they work with you.

 The Shopping Trip: A New Way Of Looking at Food

Most diet plans rely on starvation and deprivation to shed pounds, dropping blood sugar like a rock. This throws the body into hunger emergency mode....the result is we can't stop thinking about frickin' food....binging and craving for crazy things becomes the result. Our body receives the signal that we are starving and needs to store more fat. This primal signal sent to the brain translates as hunger, creating a vicious cycle of eating more and more, sabotaging all our great efforts. After years of eating an all cooked food diet, many of our clients are in a constant state of malnutrition from the depletion of proteins, vitamins and minerals. They can be stuffed, yet starving. Old school diet foods, like low-fat yogurt, energy drinks and energy bars, are made by the American Food Industry. These foods are packed with un-natural additives, pesticides, preservatives and growth hormones. These substances cause weight gain and harm the body. Helping your client shop for the whole fresh foods that make life change can take the confusion out of starting on a new adventure.

 The Home Visit: The Positive Power of Support

We teach our Holistic Health Coaches to work with behavioral action steps to safely guide their clients through a three week Raw Detox Cleanse to restore the delicate balance of the metabolism. Detoxification is the process of cleansing the body to drop stubborn weight and promote healing at the cellular level. Creating a supportive learning environment enables your client to achieve their goals. Probiotics, the friendly bacteria that keep our intestinal health in balance, are not made in the body. We must extract them from external sources, our food and drink. The problem is that modern food is mostly pasteurized, killing these beneficial work horses in great numbers. Captain James Cook, the famous eighteenth century explorer, was so aware of the serious need for live probiotics foods that he packed sixty barrels of kraut for twenty seven months at sea for his crew.

Probiotics are important components of our immune system. Seventy five percent of our immune system sits in the intestines. Probiotics work by sitting at receptor sites, blocking unhealthy invaders, protecting us from illness. When our probiotic bacteria level is low, they are not available to sit at these sites. The result is an abundance of pathogens that create conditions for disease. Poor gut health leads to headaches, migraines, anemia, bone health, chronic fatigue, cancer........the list goes on. We cannot remain healthy day after day, year after year, without them.

 

 

Raw fermented foods are literally alive with flavor, nutrition and necessary probiotics. In the Raw Food Diet we know live fermented foods are the best way to keep these little sumo wrestlers up and going strong. Pasteurized yogurt will not do the trick. Probiotic supplements not stored in the fridge contain no life force to get the job done. I blogged earlier on making small batches of sauerkraut on your countertop. So easy.

Here's a recipe for making super easy Rejuvelac, a fermented drink rich in healthy microorganisms and lactic acid. It's an inexpensive drink that you can sip daily as a tonic.

OUR HOME MADE REJUVELAC

1. Using a quart Ball Jar, soak 3 tablespoons millet in fresh water for 8-10 hours

2. Drain and rinse seeds with fresh water three times a day for 2 days (I like to keep mine by the sink or I may never think of them again)

3. Rejuvelac is made using your sprouted grain and one quart of filtered water. Allow to sit on your countertop for 48 hours to mature. When ready, pour yourself 6 ounces and drink up. You may add a little fresh lemon for flavor and as a preservative to keep the Rejuvelac fresh longer. Store in fridge for up to three days.

Out of the blue I have become totally crazy about eating radishes, growing radishes, sprouting radishes, researching radishes.......Turns out I am not alone.

The radish was once so valued in Greece that gold statues were fashioned in it's image. In parts of Mexico, Christmas is celebrated with, 'Noche de Los Rabanos', 'The Night of the Radish'.  The birth of Jesus is celebrated with radish carving contests!

Golden radishes! Mexican parades with a radish Queen. What did they know that we need to know?

Turns out the cleansing radish is known to be effective in cancer prevention, fighting oral cancer, colon cancer, and intestinal cancer as well as kidney and stomach cancer. The natural juice in the radish helps soothe the digestive system and detoxify the liver. How did this all important little guy get by us? I seldom see a radish on an American plate, and, if so, only a few slivers on the top of a salad.

I am always on the lookout for new tastes for my Raw Foods Diet, but I may not have found my way to this medicinal food, common since ancient Egypt before the pyramids, if it wasn't for the super cute 'Easter Egg Radish'. They are so colorful; pink, red, purple, sometimes white, and you can't just walk by them at the local 'Co-op' and 'Whole Foods' produce section. You have to try them!

This is a new spin on the radish. Plump,SWEET and juicy, I was hooked. Eating them can be as easy as cutting up a bunch on salad or cutting them in half and dipping them in a little sea salt and popping them in your mouth. Takes care of the need for crunchy, salty snacking while keeping it raw and lite.

 

 

Since my discovery, I have started sprouting radish seeds. Easy for growing micro greens for salads. Check out your health food store, Co-op or Whole Foods for the colorful Easter Egg Radish and the China Rose sprouting seeds.
